The house in question is the former parsonage of Altenau. It is one of the oldest houses in the city (Anno 1604) and a very special one …
They rent the entire house for themselves! Exception of the front entrance area on the ground floor.
The accommodation
Here you may not greet a marmot every day, it will probably be more of a wild boar or maybe a lynx. But if you’ve seen the movie “and greets the marmot every day” and maybe pick up the atmosphere at dinner at one of the 6 restaurants in town or the daytime on the street you will remember the movie.
We are hamburger. To escape the chaos of the big city and to recover, we have been going to the Harz for many years.
Now we have someday Altenau, the health resort spa, in love with the house with the special situation and bought it. Since this is our second home, we would like to share it with you.
The house: You have 171 sqm available. From the entrance you can reach the middle floor via a staircase. The living area spreads generously over about 100 square meters.
The living room: It consists of two open-plan rooms with several comfortable sofas, a TV + DVD player with about 60 films for all ages, a desk and a bookcase full of novels (from “love” to “murder” and mortal blow “is all there. -)
Free Wi-Fi.
The large kitchen and the dining room: both are also open to each other. Here you can study cooking, baking, especially wonderful food, hiking maps and everything else you do at a large table. The table can comfortably accommodate ten people.
The corridor: No matter from which room, you always get into the large hall with the staircase entrance and exit. In the Mitteletage you could, so to speak, circle. In the hallway is the toilet and a separate bathroom with shower. As the house is on a slope, you can also access the terrace from this level / hallway. If any of you would like to smoke one or the other cigarette, he will appreciate this area, because in the house smoking is of course not permitted.
The house is not suitable for parties. We have neighbors. After 21. 00 o’clock on the terrace may be spoken only quietly.
The bedrooms: The four bedrooms can be reached via the stairs to the top. There are two quite large bedrooms, each with a double bed 180 cm wide (two times 90×200 cm mattress) and one additional single bed (90 x 200 cm)
The two smaller bedrooms each have a double bed 160 cm wide (two times 80 x 200 cm mattress).
On this floor there is also a small bathroom with a toilet.
What is the special situation?

There is a lot of information material waiting for you in the house. However, the tourist information for the Upper Harz is almost directly across the street, so it is within walking distance.
If you come to visit us in the summer, then be sure to visit Europe’s largest herbal park with spice gallery, also within walking distance.
In Altenau also begins the Harz Witch Rose. The route between Altenau and Torfhaus is known as the most beautiful and leads mostly along the narrow trenches of the UNESCO World Heritage “Upper Harz Water Management”.
A wonderful experience on hot summer days is the swimming in the “forest swimming pond” and highly recommended. Of course it’s free for everyone and yes! only within walking distance.
Should it pour a day like from buckets (and not only then), then the Kristalltherme “hot chunks” with their great swimming pools and saunas a nice alternative to enjoy the stay, and also is within walking distance.
In the winter, the snow quickly turns into snow, and at 500 meters, it even happens more often. Altenau has its own ski and toboggan run “Auf der Rose” Ski and sled lift are available. A great fun for young and old is guaranteed.
So pack the mulled wine, grab the sled (we have some ready for you) and go sledding, of course on foot .-)
Access for guests
We provide our house. On the ground floor is the entrance area. There are two separate entrances on the left and right for rooms temporarily occupied by the church. There you have no access. Only after you have walked through the door with the glass, you are completely in your realm .-)
Interaction with guests:
The house is not suitable for parties. We have neighbors. After 21. 00 o’clock on the terrace can be spoken only quietly.
Since we are not on site, you will be greeted by our caretaker.
You will be received directly at the house.
If you do not want to bring your own bed linen, you have the option to borrow some from our manager here. Of course, a bedding package and a pair of towels belong to a bed linen package. The price for a person is once 10, -Euro.
As it is in the mountains, there is also a beautiful wooden church here. We find it an asset to the location of the house (see photos). The tower of the church regularly rings the time. So if you have a very slight slack, you might feel disturbed by the church bells.
The neighborhood
The Harz National Park is ideal for hiking, mountain biking and, of course, winter sports in winter. From the front door you could walk to the Brocken, but you should be good on foot, because there are less than 20 km to Brockenspitze.
Not only for families with children the treetop path is a must.
The old imperial city of Goslar can be reached in 20 minutes by car. Worth seeing the UNESCO World Heritage Rammelsberg.

– The house is not suitable for parties. We have neighbors. After 21. 00 o’clock on the terrace may be spoken only quietly.
– Since we are not on site, we are unable to provide you with bed linen and towels. Please bring your own linen and towels. But you also have the option of borrowing sheets and towels from our caretaker. The price per person and set is once 10, -Euro.
– Please leave our house clean and tidy, as it were. Cleaning the toilets, sucking and wiping
the floors takes over our nice home help. Their share is
for this 45,00 Euro.
– Please note that per day and person (from 18 years) 2 € tourist tax is to be paid to the spa (children over 6 years) 1.37 €.
The tourist tax is payable in cash after arrival at our property managers. You will receive the spa cards with various discounts. Various information material for the resin can be found in the

– We do not have a coffee machine, we prefer “french press” pots for brewing coffee.
Pour coffee powder with boiling water.
After 1.5 minutes you press the filter down …
and the delicious coffee is ready 🙂
