Property Description
The unique and cute S24567 (which literally means little fire house), has an interesting history dating back to the 19th century. Grade II listed, this former fire house has been put together to create a cosy environment for two people in which to relax and unwind. The diminutive building once housed the fire station office for this Brecon Beacons' town of Talgarth, with the appliance being kept in the garage of the Tower Hotel opposite. The renovation to the cottage was completed by the owners, retaining as many original period features as possible. They have enhanced the building's character through careful use of stone, slate and wood to create a charming and snug property, making this a perfect holiday retreat. It is conveniently located in the quaint town of Talgarth, where there are shops, pubs and local bus service all within a stone's throw. Within the small town sits Talgarth Mill, restored in 2011 as part of the BBC TV “Village SOS' programme. The watermill is a thriving community enterprise at the heart of the town and is open throughout the year. The enthusiastic volunteer staff will guide you around this working mill, showing all its aspects; there is also a pleasant waterside walk alongside, with views of the waterwheel. Book in advance and have a go at making your own stoneground flour using a hand-driven mill and learn where flour and bread is produced. The award-winning café serves an array of their own baked goods, and at certain times of the year, baking classes are also held.
