Property Description

S60595 is a picture book lodge full of character, built in the early Victorian era, now over two hundred years old and was originally the Lodge Gate House to Lower Moor Manor situated on the edge of the famous literary town of Hay-on-Wye.

This delightful cottage has lots of delightful period features including flagstone floors, oak beams, oak doors and floor boards and most attractive Queen Anne style leaded-light windows, old original slates, decorative barge boarding and a long low over-hung porch. The cottage is just a five minutes stroll into Hay-on-Wye or down to The River Wye.

Accommodation

Sleeps 4 -2 Bedrooms – 1 Double, 1 Twin

The lodge is all on one level except for a couple of steps up into the two bedrooms. The kitchen has a dark red Rayburn hob and oven, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, washer dryer and a table.

The dining room has a table and chair to seat 4, patio doors “fairly low” open out onto the lovely sunny terrace – a wonderful place to quietly sit in the sunshine and admire the views up the hill or down the valley to Hay-on-Wye.

The living room has sofa and chairs, again beautiful flagstone flooring, wood burning stove, TV with Sky and DVD player.

Bedroom 1: Double bed with original fireplace (not in use)

Bedroom 2: Twin beds

Bathroom: The bathroom has a bath with electric shower over, hand basin and toilet.

The lodge is situated in a large enclosed garden with a lawn, terrace with garden furniture and plenty of off road parking and again absolutely lovely views of the rolling hills and surrounding fields, waving with ripening corn when we were there visiting.

Just a few minutes from the centre of Hay-on-Wye and an easy stroll down the lane to The River Wye where you can laze all day beside the wide slow river or perhaps hire a canoe for the adventurous or get on a mountain bike to explore the area. There are superb places a to eat in the area – try The River Cafe on Glasbury Bridge, Foyles of Glasbury, St John's Place, Booth's Cafe, cinema and bookshop to name just a few of the more out of the ordinary places to eat in and around Hay on Wye. You are spoilt for choice with the wide choice of really excellent boutiques, second and antiquarian bookshops, the antique shops filled with curio's, the art galleries, craft shops and of course the open air market and The covered Cheese Market. Hay is also a great place for Christmas shopping.

Wonderful drives whether exploring The Llantony Valley and Capel-y-Ffin, Hay Bluff and The Black Mountains, The attractive Herefordshire Border Towns, The Brecon Beacons National Park – they are all very accessible from here.
