Delightful Arundel Cottage

5 People|3 Bedrooms|

Property Description

All the modern comforts are incorporated within this traditional Arundel holiday cottage. Just an ideal setting for the town, the South Coast beaches and the South Downs

S60634 stands on the site of the General Abercrombie pub in Arundel, which was lost in a fire some years ago. The site was cleared and two traditionally styled cottages were built to replace it, one of which is now available for holiday lets. The location is ideal, being just across the river Arun from the main part of the town of Arundel, with the Cathedral on the top of the hill and the Castle rising majestically from close to the river bank.

The kitchen is at the front of the cottage with plenty of space to enjoy meals at the dining table in the centre. The kitchen is compact and well thought out, with all you need for meals during your holidays. At the back of the cottage is a spacious sitting room, with French windows opening onto the patio garden. This is the ideal space for alfresco dining, or perhaps a barbecue on a warm evening. The sitting room has a feature gas, coal effect fire, just the thing to make the cooler evenings more cosy.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single. All are furnished in a traditional style with modern beds that are of a traditional 19th Century appearance. The family bathroom contains a bath with shower over, together with a basin and WC, and there is also a downstairs cloakroom with basin and WC.

Unusually for Arundel, S60634 has a dedicated off road parking space for one car.

Arundel and beyond

Arundel is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. Its a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. The Keep at the centre of the castle dates from the 11th Century. Climbing the 131 steps to the top to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

During the summer the Arundel Festival is held over a ten day period and features an eclectic mix of music, drama and arts. Many homes open their doors and gardens over this period to provide a wonderful backdrop to the variety of art on show. S60634 is perfectly placed to participate in as much of the activity as you like. We feature the festival under Whats on on the homepage of our website.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the worlds most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Further afield Arundel is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehamptons West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest.

Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.

If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this beautiful part of Sussex.
