Rothbury is “the capital of Coquetdale', and home to the Northumberland National Park Visitor Centre. The area is fantastic for walkers, with gentle riverside walks, woodland, rolling hills, and miles of cycle routes. Angling permits are available on the River Coquet, one of the best fishing venues in the county. Rothbury has a good selection of cafes, inns and a small selection of bespoke shops as well as a local supermarket. The 18-hole golf course is only a gentle stroll away. On the outskirts of Rothbury is the National Trust venue of Cragside Hall, the first home in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity, now a popular attraction with stunning rhododendron bushes in the spring. A few miles away is Alnwick, the ducal town protected by its dramatic castle, featured in Harry Potter and of course Downton Abbey. Rothbury is less than 20 miles from the glorious heritage coast, peppered with historic castles and golden beaches. Beach 17 miles. Shop 350 yards, pub and restaurant 300 yards.
