Attractive Horsham Cottage

12 People|4 Bedrooms|

Property Description

Live close to nature in this truly exceptional re-creation of a Saxon Hall. Four bedroom suites with four bathroom suites this stunning building is in the most beautiful rural setting within the South Downs National Park.

Framed by the South Downs, and looking onto the Rother Valley, an undisturbed valley tucked away next to the Arun Valley, the views of the ancient brookland meadows with their wild flowers, dragonflies and wetland birds is magnificent when flooded and enchanting when in bloom. The meadows here are a registered wading bird breeding ground.

The S60680 is built on the same field as the Hardham Roman Camp, with the Roman Road of Stane Street passing close by. The Saxon Hall style designed interior with the roof timbers exposed, was built by the master craftsman, Rodney Elliot who was born in the parish, along with a team of other local craftsmen and women who have all enjoyed making this place special. There are four themed bedrooms; The Classical Room, The Arts and Crafts Room, The Nautical Room and The Indian Room. They are beautifully furnished and presented and there are televisions in each room. From the luxury of your bedroom you will enjoy an outlook most special, this truly is a wonderful setting.

Three of the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, the fourth a large walk in shower room. There is the same attention to detail here on both style and themed finish in these bathrooms and the Arts and Crafts bathroom is dressed very effectively with work from the Keswick School of Industrial Art in the Lake District.

The bedrooms can be set up with single beds, or have the beds zip linked to form super king sized beds. Each bedroom can sleep up to three with an additional single bed if needed. The owner will contact you after you book to see how you would like the rooms to be set up.

We see this home as being the perfect retreat for a group of friends coming together for that special celebration. There is a team waiting to take as much care of you as you would like and we can arrange for professional catering should you want to make the occasion even more special.

The River Rother passes to the side of the house offering half a mile of private fishing and along ts banks you have easy access to the start of the Rother Valley Walk and a network of footpaths that will encourage you to walk and enjoy such complete solitude. Find yourself watching cormorants, buzzards, heron, huge numbers of duck and geese all depending on the season when you choose to visit.

Hardham and beyond

The S60680 falls within the boundary of the South Downs National Park. Pulborough Brooks is just a mile away in the Arun valley and has many excellent walks across the Brooks and along the banks of the River Arun offering uninterrupted views south towards the South Downs. Part of the Brooks contains one of the rspbs major reserves in the south and just two miles from the house. We carry a link to the rspb reserve within Places to visit on our website.

Also nearby is the West Sussex Golf Club which is regularly judged one of the outstanding inland courses in Britain with a priceless oasis of heather, sand, heath and trees beneath the Sussex Downs. For any golf lover, staying at Riverside is very convenient indeed.

Four miles south east in the direction of Storrington and nestling at the foot of the South Downs is Parham House, a magnificent Elizabethan home that is a real jewel. Again it is featured under Places to visit – a half day there is time well spent.

Heading northwest from Pulborough is the historic market town of Petworth. It is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House and deer park which was landscaped by Capability Brown. The house and its grounds are now owned by the National Trust. The magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner. Petworth itself was immortalised in his paintings. The town is full of quaint houses and cottages, many within their own courtyard settings. They are interspersed with antique shops and tearooms so it makes the ideal place for a stroll following a visit to Petworth House and Park.

This area of West Sussex has a variety of events that occur through the year from Goodwood racing and the Goodwood motorsport meetings, to the Arundel Festival, racing at Fontwell and polo at Cowdray. Details on all of these are found under our Whats on heading.
