Only 30 minutes from Salzburg the stunning Saalach valley is perfect for winter and summer holidays with a host of activities and sightseeing opportunities for all ages and interests. The apartment is in the grounds of the stunning Schloss Grubhof, once the residence of the King of Bavaria.
Summer: While Alpine Austria is a million miles from your traditional summer beach holiday it offers a vast array of wonderful experiences for everyone. Average daytime temperature of around 25 C in summer is perfect for both relaxing and active pursuits and has the added benefit of being comfortable for small children.
Lofer has many wonderful local facilities and, if you are willing to travel a little, there are limitless possibilities. From short trips to the beautiful lakes (Salzkammergut) or nearby waterfalls, to overnight stays in Vienna, Verona or Lake Bled you truly are in the centre of Europe.
Winter:The local ski resort Loferer Alm is a compact family-friendly facility which is undergoing some major investment. The main lift from the village was replaced with a brand new bubble and n there is a whole new slope with a state of the art 8 man lift and a fully covered escalator for the nursery slopes. They recently received an award for best family friendly ski resorts and best new lift from the premier German website,
Salzburg Airport is 30 minutes drive or there is a direct bus service from the airport. Innsbruck is 90 mins drive and Munich is 2 hours – all on relatively straightforward roads. No sweat inducing cliff drops
For the adventurous skier or boarder the apartments are a great base to experience the many resorts of Salzburgerland. A Salzburgerland Ski Pass gives you unlimited access to 2200km of piste across 40 resorts, all between 15 and 60 minutes drive from Lofer.
Forget those terrifying twisty bus journeys up to the French and Italian resorts – the roads through the valleys are relatively flat and easy to drive . You will also see some of the stunning scenery of the surrounding region.
Choose from famous resorts like Saalbach Hinterglemm, Zell am Zee and Kitzbuehl to the massive Ski Amade region.
Activities: From sedate walks to extreme mountain biking the Saalachtal valley has something for everyone. The lift system runs in the summer offering access to strolls in the alpine meadow, a network of hiking and running trails and hardcore downhill bike runs.
The Saalach river offers everything from a gentle swim in calm turquoise waters to white water action – kayaking, rafting, Canadian canoeing, tubing and Hydrospeed. Lofer recently hosted a stage in the kayaking world cup races.
Nearby there are several golf courses plus a unique cross country walk/golf course stretching over 5 miles. There is a summer toboggan run in nearby Saalfelden a large outdoor pool complex in Unken and lake swimming and water sports in Zell am Zee (30 mins drive).
Slightly further afield the Austrian Lake District is within an hours drive and offers both stunning sightseeing and a myriad of water sports and activities.
