The Old Princely Court, built as a palace or residence during the rule of Vlad III Dracula in 1459. Archaeological excavations started in 1953, and now the site is operated by the Muzeul Municipiului Bucuresti in the historic center of Bucharest, Romania.
„The Princely Court and its surroundings represent the original hearth of the city. The oldest princely residence in Bucharest was most probably founded in the late 14th century, but the first recorded document about a fortress (or a princely palace) in this place is dated September 20, 1459, issued by Prince Vlad III Dracula -the terrible prince commonly referred to as Tepes, “The Impaler”, whose bust today watches over the vestiges of his palace.”
Much of what remains today was uncovered during archaeological digs that took place from 1967-72, when the palace ruins were first opened as a museum. There are fragments of the original 15th century walls, as well as remnants of the princely palace throne room, in which most of the relics found on the site are exhibited.
” Bucharest’s Old Town is a mix of history, local culture and life style, a trendy entertainment district and favorite hangout for the locals.”
