Property Description

Our apartment Bad Ischl Bergblick is a comfortable, fully-equipped apartment, with tastefully decorated light and airy rooms, and holds the highest quality classification of 4 Edelweiss awarded by the Upper Austria Private Landlords Association We are an English couple living locally, who personally prepare it with care for our guests. It is in a traditionally styled building, in a quiet no-through road, yet within easy walking distance of the town centre, station, and thermal baths. The apartment has a double bedroom with a large double bed and wardrobe. the lounge has two comfortable armchairs, a sofa (which can be turned into a double bed), and dining area. There is a log-burning stove in the lounge. It has a separate fully-equipped kitchen, with an oven, ceramic hob, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator and dishwasher. There is a small freezer in the store room. The large, fully-tiled bathroom has a large washbasin, full-size bath, a separate modern shower enclosure, and has underfloor heating. There is a separate WC. There is also a washing machine, and a drying rack is provided. Cycle and ski storage is available on-site.

The balcony, which is accessible from the bedroom and lounge, has wonderful views of the Zimnitz mountain and the fantastic sunsets. A table and chairs are provided in the summer for you to relax. Please note that there is no garden.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

This property is ideally situated for taking advantage of the natural beauty of the area. Cyclists of all ages are catered for, from flat cycle paths alongside picturesque rivers, to mountain biking among the magnificent scenery (cycle hire is available locally). For those interested in walking, there are many possibilities in the area, from light evening strolls from the apartment, to more taxing walks in the mountains. We provide walking maps, and if you wish we can provide more information and further ideas, as we are keen walkers ourselves!

At Lake Wolfgang, there is a whole range of water sports available, including sailing, pedalo hire, wind surfing, or simply swimming. All the lakes in the area are drinking-water quality, and are crystal clear. Lake Wolfgang is just a short car or bus ride away from Bad Ischl. In the summer, spend a day relaxing on a boat visiting the quaint towns of St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen and Strobl, all with their own characters.

Golfing is available at the Salzkammergut golf course, less than 15 minutes drive from the apartment.

WINTER ACTIVITIES

In winter, there is superb skiing at Dachstein West (Upper Austria’s largest ski area), or at Postalm (Europe’s second largest high mountain plateau). Both resorts are suitable for all ages and abilities. Cross-country skiing is also very popular in the area, particularly at Rettenbachalm, on the outskirts of Bad Ischl, and at Gosau, where there are approximately 45km of prepared tracks in a beautiful valley setting particularly suitable for beginners. Ski buses to all of these areas can be found within 5 minutes walk of the apartment, and is free for guests staying 3 nights or more. We can provide more information on request.

In Bad Ischl itself, the thermal spa is open all year, and it is possible to enjoy the amazing experience of swimming outside amid the snow!

And of course there are the advent markets, particularly round Lake Wolfgang where can enjoy a day travelling between them by boat.

SIGHTSEEING

For those who are less active, or if you just want to relax a little more, there are plenty of things to do both in the immediate area and further afield. Take a trip up the Schafberg mountain by rack railway, or the Zwölferhorn by cable car and enjoy magnificent views. The latter is particularly beautiful in the winter, with cleared paths and cosy mountain huts to warm up in with a glass of hot mulled wine!

A visit to Hallstatt is a must. From its old buildings dating back hundreds of years, perched on precipitous slopes in seemingly impossible locations, to the Bronze Age burial site and salt mine, it cannot fail to impress and delight the visitor. Take a boat trip round the Hallstättersee (Lake Hallstatt), among the mountains that surround it. Other attractions in the same area include the Ice Caves, Krippenstein (with its almost lunar landscape), and the Five Fingers, a viewing platform with stunning views over Lake Hallstatt and far beyond.

Or go to Salzburg, with it’s wonderful old buildings and modern shops, easily reachable by public transport. Further afield, the Austrian cities of Graz and Linz are ideal for day trips, as are Berchtesgaden, the Eagle’s Nest, and Königsee in Germany.
