Dainty sandwiches, scones accompanied by fresh cream and fruity jam, cakes and freshly made pastries are all yours for the taking with this afternoon tea at Woburn Abbey. Take a friend and the two of you can enjoy it together in the breathtaking historical surroundings of what was originally a Cistercian abbey founded in 1145.
You will be invited in to the Abbey’s Duchess Tea Rooms which overlook the impressive grounds and the Abbey is in fact the rumoured birthplace of the traditional afternoon tea itself. You are welcome to enjoy the Woburn Abbey all day, there is plenty to see, including the various State Rooms where famous Royalty such as Elizabeth I, Charles I, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert have stayed.
You’ll discover vaults, superb 18th century French and English furniture, silver and gold collections, and a wide range of English, continental and oriental porcelain. Stunning works of art adorn the many walls and these include private collections such as paintings by Coyp, Gainsborough, Reynolds and Van Dyck. You then have 3000 acres of land to appreciate so bringing your camera with you is a must.
