Explore the world famous sites of Vindolanda and Housesteads Roman forts (English Heritage) along the way. Haltwhistle has a number of tea shops, pubs and restaurants to choose from along with good local shops, while the activities at Kielder Water make for a great day out. Visit the lovely Northumbrian towns and villages around Hexham or head west 10 miles to Brampton. Shops, pubs and restaurants 6½ miles.
