Beautifully presented this cosy terraced holiday cottage in the little village of Crocketford with its family owned pub/restaurant and village store with fresh rolls and newspapers daily, is an ideal base to explore all that this hidden gem of an area has to offer. Exploring this beautiful corner of south west Scotland is a joy whether it be by car, bike or foot.

Drive some of the 200 miles or so of the stunning and dramatic coastline with secluded little bays and sandy beaches. Close by is the beautiful Colvend coast with the picturesque little villages of Kippford, Rockcliffe and Sandyhills with its wide sweeping beach. There are a profusion of walks in the area from the commanding Criffel, Screel and Merrick hills. The walks are well worth it to enjoy the stunning views from the top which are truly breathtaking.
A short drive from the Cottage you have access to Dalbeattie Forest and one of the world famous 7Stanes Mountain bike trails. Go on try your hand at the red graded Hardrock trail! Take a stroll round Threave Gardens (National Trust) close to Castle Douglas or Threave Castle, described as the most romantic place in Galloway, and to reach it ring the bell at the jetty and take the very short trip across the water by boat.
Described at the “Food Town” Castle Douglas is a delightful little town with a variety of local businesses selling and producing food and drink as well as niche shopping.
Visit Kirkcudbright, a charming little fishing town and watch the fishing boats returning to the busy and bustling harbour. Kirkcudbright is known as “the artists town” having hosted generations of painters, craft makers and artisans – a culture still thriving today. The town hosts a popular programme of summer festivities and culminates with the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed.After a long day exploring the area return to your cosy wood burning stove or just sit in the garden enjoying the clear dark skies as Dumfries and Galloway is recognised as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world and the First Dark Sky Park in the UK.
