Quaint Pitlochry Cottage

4 People|2 Bedrooms|

Property Description

Amidst the glorious scenery of Highland Perthshire, this most attractive, terraced cottage is set in a delightful courtyard development converted from a traditional farm steading. Next to the owner's home, S81648 is very comfortably furnished throughout, and the large picture windows, both front and back, allows light to flood in and make the most of the surrounding scenery. Nestled in the hamlet of Bridge of Gaur, the property is only 6 miles from Rannoch Station where trains regularly arrive from London and Edinburgh, making this an ideal tranquil getaway. From here, visitors can take a trip on the Jacobite Steam Train through some of Scotland's most magnificent scenery to Fort William and then on to Mallaig on the West Highland line, one of the top ten train journeys in the world according to the BBC. Film buffs will recognise the station as that from the film Trainspotting, but its isolated splendour is also a wonderful stop for breakfast, light lunches and cakes at the tea room on the platform. There is also the award winning Moor of Rannoch Hotel at the station, open to non residents for dinner (prebooking recommended).

Wildlife is prevalent here, with golden eagles, ospreys, otters and pine martens spotted on a regular basis. More frequently, deer and red squirrels can be seen in the immediate vicinity. The wild and beautiful Loch Rannoch is most effectively explored on foot or bike, its stunning views taken in all round the route, and the area makes up a major part of the Etape Caledonia cycle route, which happens in May of each year. Munro baggers will relish the challenge of the two munros in the area; Shiehallion with its distinctive summit and Ben Alder, both easily accessible from the cottage. Excellent walking trails are found in abundance, and stalking, fishing and archery can be booked in advance from the local estate.
The village of Kinloch Rannoch is 11 miles away and has some very good eating places, including a tea room and two hotels, both serving lunches and evening meals, artisan shops and general grocery supplies. Further afield are the towns of Aberfeldy and Pitlochry, with the Birks of Aberfeldy and the Pitlochry Enchanted Forest making the most of Perthshire's justified reputation as 'Big Tree Country'. A popular guest house is just 300 yards away where bookings can be made for evening meals. This is a cottage you will want to return to again and again, for there is too much to see and do in just one visit. Shop 11 miles, pub 10 miles and restaurant 6 miles.
