Superb Melvich Cottage

4 People|2 Bedrooms|

Property Description

S85766 is a large traditional, detached stone cottage situated in a rural location, just a stone's throw from a stunning sandy bay in the far north west of Scotland. S85766 has been in the same family since it was built over a 100 years ago. The great grandfather of the current owner was a cabinet maker by trade and some of his workmanship can still be seen in the cottage. A seafaring family, there is also a beautiful cased model of a well-known tall sailing ship, which was also the handiwork of the owner's ancestor. Having undergone a programme of renovation, the cottage now provides warm and welcoming accommodation in a quiet and totally unspoilt setting.

All the rooms are bright and spacious, with high ceilings and large windows drinking in the superb country views. The attractive living room looks out over open countryside to the hills beyond. The kitchen/dining room has original solid wood flooring and is very well equipped. The adjoining conservatory is an ideal spot to sit and read or plan the next day's excursion, whilst enjoying the pretty and secluded cottage garden views. There is an en-suite double bedroom on the ground floor and a twin bedroom on the first floor. A large family-sized bathroom on the first floor completes the picture. S85766 is set in its own grounds, and the country gardens are a profusion of shrubs and perennial flowers, with a small burn flowing just beyond the perimeter.
There are wonderful walks direct from the cottage, straight into the hills or along the shoreline. The nearby beach of Achninver is truly delightful, with white sand bordered by rocky outcrops. Whilst rural, the small hamlet of Talmine, 3 miles away, and has a thriving village shop and post office. The next village of Melness has a country pub serving food. The larger village of Tongue, six miles away, has further facilities including a general store, hotels with bars and restaurants and craft shops. The immediate area is renowned for its spectacular scenery, with the mountains of Ben Hope and Ben Loyal, numerous sandy beaches and wonderful hill and coastal walks in all directions. The region is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. For sailors and kayakers, there is a slipway and harbour. The area is also renowned for its loch, river and sea fishing.
