Walkers are especially well-catered for, with a footpath to the quaint medieval village of Axbridge, and the West Mendip Way. The Somerset Wetlands offer superb bird watching facilities for nature lovers, along with the nearby Willow Craft Centre. For the more adventurous, there is always potholing on the Mendips or caving in the gorge. During October/November, the surrounding market towns host the famous West Country Carnivals. Cheddar, world famous for its gorge, caves and cheese, is only 10 minutes away. Farmers' markets are held in both Cheddar and Axbridge on alternate Saturdays, or for a larger, French-style market, there is always the delightful city of Wells, England's smallest cathedral city. Wookey Hole Caves and paper mill on the outskirts of Wells are well worth a visit, as is Clarks Village factory outlet complex in Street for the shopaholics. All three destinations are within a 30-minute radius. There is also a choice of three golf courses in the immediate area. A little further afield is the World Heritage city of Bath, Yeovilton Air Museum and the Bath and West Showground, all well within an hour's drive. The coastal resorts of Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-Super-Mare and Clevedon are also within an easy drive. Beach 8 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
