On the opposite side of the tidal river Yealm, is Newton Ferrers with its post office, Co-op, butchers, chemist and Yacht Club. At low tide it is possible to walk from one village to the other on the “Voss” path. This sheltered, deep water harbour is much favoured by yachtsmen and lies within a truly beautiful, wooded valley surrounded by the National Trust's rolling hills and countryside. The popular village regatta takes place every August with a spectacular firework display on the river.
