Situated in the village of Butterknowle between the market towns of Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle. Located within the Gaunless Valley which is overlooked by the gorse covered Cockfield Fell an ancient monument containing evidence of Roman settlements. There are many public footpaths close by and in the surrounding countryside of Teesdale and nearby Weardale. Visit Raby Castle to the south and to the north Hamsterley Forest offering woodland walks and mountain biking. High Force one of England s highest and most spectacular waterfalls is located a short drive away. The property is also ideally situated to visit Kynren and Durham University. The cottage has been lovingly restored in keeping with its heritage with a well designed interior and original wooden beams further adding to its charm. Take four stone steps to the entrance door or alternatively take the path which slopes down to the entrance (for those who have difficulty with steps or a pushchair). Enter into the warm and inviting kitchen/diner with a beamed ceiling and the original range as a feature of the kitchen which also has an electric oven and hob fridge/freezer microwave and washing machine. An oak door opens into the cosy lounge with wood burner and TV/DVD relax after a busy day exploring and plan your adventures for the following day. Off the lounge an oak door leads to the inner hallway with a door out to the garden and the staircase leading to the first floor where you will find a stylish double bedroom with TV and a twin bedroom with TV and fabulous views over the gorse moor and the River Gaunless. The bathroom with shower over bath is also found on this floor. A further staircase takes you up to a further twin bedroom with TV and en-suite shower room and the original cross wooden beams views from the Velux window are truly spectacular. Heading outside you will find a well designed stone paved area with dining table and chairs to enjoy al fresco dining raised flower beds and a lovely bench to sit and admire the view and if you are lucky you may see a kingfisher. There is also a charcoal BBQ and a lockable store for your bicycles. There is plenty of roadside parking outside and near the property.
