The Highdown Inn is only a short stroll away offering a selection of beers, wines, spirits and locally sourced seafood and local produce. The open top bus stops outside the pub, which is another great way to explore the island. There are also four beautiful bays only a short drive away, Totland, Colwell, Alum, and Freshwater Bay. Totland Bay is only about ¾ mile away offering 'The Turf Walk' and The Waterfront Bar and Restaurant. Here you can enjoy the most stunning scenery, lovely beaches and amazing sunsets, and you can walk from Totland Bay to Colwell Bay along the promenade. Alum Bay with its famous multi-coloured sands is only a short drive and offers The Needles Landmark Attraction and Alum Bay Glass. Freshwater Bay, about 2 miles, is one of the most picturesque beaches in West Wight and lies just to the south of the village of Freshwater. Smugglers once used the caves around the bottom of the chalk cliffs that are exposed at low tide if you wish to explore them it is best to find a local guide as you can become cut off by the tide. Kayaking is the ideal way to see them and the other small bays, Watcombe and Scratchells. Freshwater beach is popular for surfing and water sports. You will often see boats moor offshore to come ashore here.

The Yar River that runs from Freshwater Bay to Yarmouth has a scenic walk and cycle route along the causeway. Explore, relax and enjoy. Shop and restaurant ¾ miles, pub 200 yards.
