Excellent Chulmleigh Cottage

4 People|2 Bedrooms|

Property Description

S80985 belies its understated name. This thatched cottage is in fact the south wing of one of Devon's finest examples of an historic open hall house, set within 22 acres of stunning countryside with origins dating back to the 15th century. As you arrive at the property, you will pass through and past a fine array of historic and impressive thatched buildings, one of which houses the owner's micro-brewery. There are so many reasons to enjoy a holiday at S80985, not only are you staying in a part of Devon's rich history, but you also have use of your own private 1-acre meadow. Just a short walk from the front door, this large quiet open space compliments the private and cosy surroundings of the cottage perfectly. The meadow has views towards Dartmoor and there is plenty of space to walk and run around, or find a quiet shady spot to finish a book or simply to let the shutters come down!

Located just outside the busy village of North Tawton, the cottage is perfectly located to get out and about and see all Devon has to offer. Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor, is a short distance away and as well as having a good selection of shops and amenities it has very good access onto Dartmoor to enjoy the dramatic landscape this National Park provides. There is also Okehampton Castle which is worth a visit, and a walk along the old railway to Meldon Reservoir, which has some stunning views, and not forgetting nearby National Trust Castle Drogo. The location of the cottage makes it an ideal base from which to explore the north Cornwall and Devon areas. There are stunning beaches at Woolacombe and Sandymouth. Enjoy a day out at Hartland and visit the Lighthouse, Hartland Quay and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. If gardens are of interest, you will found the RHS gardens at Rosemoor a delight and there are numerous National Trust properties in the surrounding area to enjoy. Other highlights in the local area include Roadford Lake and Dingles Steam Museum, while other activities include golf and horse riding, or hire a bike and explore the Tarka Trail.
