Chittlehamholt is a charming, rural village which also has a community run shop just a short distance from the pub. Down the road from the properties is the High Bullen Hotel and Golf Course. There is a very well-equipped sports pavilion where non-paying guests can visit and enjoy the great range of facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool.

Head towards Barnstaple where there is access to some of the best beaches in the country, including Woolacombe and Saunton. The nearest beach, at Instow, is ideal for children and also makes a great place to walk off life's stresses and then enjoy a meal or drink at one of the pubs and restaurants along the front. The town of Barnstaple has most amenities, as well as a busy high street, a market and Butchers Row, which are well worth a visit. There are numerous places of interest close by including the Royal Horticultural Gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village of Clovelly. National Trust properties can be found at Arlington, Castle Drogo and Knightshayes Court. For the younger ones, a visit to The Big Sheep (an amusement park) or The Milky Way Adventure Park is a good option. There is walking on Dartmoor, Exmoor and the South West Coast Path, or hire a bike and cycle the Tarka Trail. There is also fishing and golf available locally.
