Charming Ulverston And Lakeland Peninsula Cottage

4 People|2 Bedrooms|

Property Description

Built in the late 18th century, this beautiful, terraced Georgian home was originally the Butler's residence for the neighbouring Soutergate House and until the mid-1980's, the two buildings were still internally connected by the servants' stairs. Although built as a grand family home, the main house has served many purposes over the years, including a doctor's surgery, a school, a boarding house and a meeting place for the local Women's Union. It also had connections with Ulverston's workhouse. Bought by the current owners and renovated over a period of 18 months, The Butler's House is now a comfortable bolthole within walking distance of shops, pubs and restaurants.

The cobbled streets of Ulverston are packed full of unique speciality shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, and the town has much to offer in terms of spectacular scenery, entertainment, great food and outdoor activities. The town has a vibrant community and there are many festivals and events held throughout the year, including The Lantern Procession, as well as music and walking festivals. Whilst the town offers the entire amenities one expects, it still retains a traditional feel with its old fashioned cinema, complete with traditional snacks and an intermission! Ulverston is also famous for being the birthplace of comedian Stan Laurel and has its very own Laurel and Hardy Museum. It is also at one end of the 70-mile long Cumbrian Way, making it an ideal destination for walkers. The Cistercian Way is another popular walk amongst visitors, taking in some of Cumbria's most impressive countryside and historic landmarks, including the ruins of Furness Abbey. In addition to the excellent walking opportunities, there are also lots of cycle trails and miles of coastline to explore.
Located on the Furness Peninsula and surrounded by stunning scenery, The Butler's House is just over a mile from the shores of Morecambe Bay, and the Cumbrian lakes of Coniston Water and Windermere are a 10-minute drive. Shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
