With train journeys from London being just over an hour, and Rye Train station being under 10 mins walk from the apartment, it is an ideal base for exploring the area if you should wish.

Boasting being one of the best preserved medieval coastal towns in England and the home to the enchanting cobbled Mermaid Street, the impressive Norman church of St Mary's with its fine views to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and the beautiful hilltop town of Winchelsea with its maze of medieval wine cellars, Rye has a rich selection of specialist and antique shops, wonderful bars and pubs as well as a thriving fishing fleet supplying the many acclaimed restaurants – all of which are a few minutes' walk from the apartment. Camber Sands (a short drive or bus ride away) has 7 miles of Blue Flag award winning soft sandy beach and the only sand dune system in East Sussex – a valuable habitat for many different animals and plants.
Rye has always been a magnet for writers and artists and a wealth of art and photography galleries thrives in the town. The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, spanning 1149 acres, attracts many visitors and bird watchers from all over the world and is a haven for wildlife and over 90 species of birds. A multitude of footpaths, cycle routes and wonderful walks weave their way throughout the area and within a short driving distance are many National Trust properties including Lamb House, Scotney Castle & Gardens, Batemans House & Gardens, Great Dixter House & Gardens, Smallhythe Place, Sissinghurst Castle Garden to name but a few.This holiday cottage at a glance

  • Otherwise enjoy a day out at Bedgebury Forest, home to the National Pinetum, extensive cycling trails or for those with a head for heights, there is the action packed Go Ape .
  • Catch the train from Folkestone (30 minutes) and take the Eurostar for a day trip to France.
