Peebles is 25 minutes' drive with plenty of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a swimming pool, and just five minutes further is Glen Tress & Innerleithen mountain biking centre and the Go Ape ropes course. Visit the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, 15 miles, for a fascinating insight into life as a mill worker 230 years ago, and to see the spectacular Falls of Clyde.
