Property Description

Set in a breathtaking green haven of calm and tranquility, S51050 is the ultimate getaway!

S51050 is a typical traditional Kentish oast house that was originally built to dry hops for the making of beer. It has now been restored and converted into a comfortable home and is situated in the centre of the historic village of Newenden, opposite the village green, where cricket has been played since 1300, close to the church with its 12th century font and within very easy walking distance of the 16th century pub, The White Hart Inn, which offers local beers and wines as well as excellent home cooked food.

Whilst S51050 is in the centre of this historic village, it is situated in a very relaxing location with far reaching westerly views down the Rother Valley. There is plenty of outdoor space at S51050, a sheltered, but sunny terrace, with patio furniture and gas bar-be-que, a large garden and a one acre paddock which is ideal for children to run around in total safety. S51050, which is a listed building, was converted in 1995 to a very high standard and retains many of its original period features, including the hop press which is situated at the top of the stairs, but the house benefits from modern insulation as well as an excellent central heating system. There is also a wireless broadband system for those who like to keep in touch. The mobile phone reception also is very good in this rural location, as there is a mast about a mile away.

S51050 is well designed for a superb family holiday. The roundel drawing room with two three seater sofas, TV, DVD and hifi, is an excellent peaceful space, with far reaching views down The Rother Valley. The adjoining sitting room with a log burning stove, also has a TV and is a very cosy area, especially during winter evenings. The traditional kitchen with range cooker is a great space and the adjacent dining room with its beamed ceiling mixes contemporary design with this historic building. Upstairs, passing the old hop press on the stairs, there are three bedroom and two bathrooms. The round master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. All the bedrooms have LCD TVs with Freeview, the master suite has a king size French antique bed, the second bedroom a standard double bed and the third bedroom can be configured to offer twin beds or a double bed. There is also a family bathroom with a large shower.

Newenden is right on the Kent Sussex boarder and situated seven miles to the west of Tenterden, seven miles north of Rye and twelve miles east of Battle. The Channel Tunnel is only forty five minutes by road and the spa town of Tunbridge Wells is also a short drive away taking about forty minutes. The seaside towns of Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton are also easy journeys and are excellent day trips.

The village of Northiam, about two miles to the south, has some excellent shops, including a general village shop, baker as well as an excellent fish and chip shop, there are also more pubs and eateries. There are many places to eat in the area, restaurants of most nationalities, as well as many excellent pubs. The White Hart Pub, a short walk from S51050, offers local wines and beers as well as excellent home cooked food at realistic prices. If you prefer to cook yourself a trip to one of the many fish shops in Rye is a must. The fresh fish landed at Rye is legendary and worth getting up early for.

There is much to explore locally, within 500 meters there are many places to visit. The Bodiam Boating Station where you can hire boats on The River Rother, or take the Dannie Lee to Bodiam Castle. The Kent and Sussex Railway also goes to Bodiam Castle but also runs down the valley to Tenterden. There is also The Mill Toy Museum, which has The UK largest collection of pedal cars, but if you just want to relax, a walk along the river bank, or watch cricket on the village green can be a great way to unwind, with perhaps, a drink in The White Hart, to complete your relaxation.

If you want a short drive then try some of the many attractions in the area. Garden-lovers should head to Great Dixter or Sissinghurst Castle, two fabulous examples of the horticulturists art. The fairytale medieval castle at Bodiam and of course, the town of Battle, famous for the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Another popular tourist attraction is Rye, in Sussex, only seven miles from S51050. There is so much to do and see in this ancient Cinque Port with its old cobbled streets and inland port. A day just exploring is a day you won't forget in a hurry.

Then down to the coast for beaches with golden sands. Try Camber Sands one of the countrys best locations for beach-combing, or visit Hastings a typical seaside town with a difference. Namely – Britains steepest funicular Victorian Railway, authentic Smugglers Caves, one of the last great Victorian seaside piers and the remains of William the Conquerors first English castle – all sitting happily along side more modern day amenities including a Sealife aquatic centre and several astounding lighting installations including the mysterious marine monolith Stream and the iconic Sticks of Rock along the seafront. Also home to Europes largest beach fishing fleet so why not take home a dressed crab to enjoy with a glass of local bubbly.
